Shak Mancel James is a dynamic and versatile performer with a strong foundation in both theatre and music. Based in London and born and raised in Oxford, Shak brings with him a rich tapestry of vocal influences, drawing from a lifetime surrounded by southern UK accents, including RP, Heightened RP, and various London dialects. His natural speaking voice sits comfortably between RP and MLE, and his Jamaican heritage adds further depth to his vocal range and cultural perspective.
A lifelong fan of cartoons, anime, video games, and the art of accent work, Shak’s passion for voiceover was ignited with his debut role as the Singling in Season 1, Episode 16 of the Netflix series Dee & Friends in Oz. Since then, he has been eager to build a career in voiceover, particularly in character-driven work across animation, gaming, and commercial projects.
Though new to the voiceover world, Shak is far from a newcomer to performance. A seasoned theatre professional since the age of seven, his stage credits include major productions such as Hairspray, Motown the Musical, The Lion King, We Will Rock You, The Book of Mormon, and Hamilton. These roles have seen him perform using a broad range of accents, including Standard American, RP, General African, and various New York dialects.
Shak is a graduate of the prestigious Guildford School of Acting, where he earned a BA in Musical Theatre and received training in Basic Stage Combat. His physical performance skills, musical background, and deep understanding of character work make him a compelling choice for projects that require both nuance and versatility.
Currently setting up his home studio, Shak is equipped with professional-grade gear and is ready to bring his distinctive voice and creative energy to a wide range of voiceover projects.
