Bio

Doreene is a versatile voiceover artist and actor originally from Coventry in the Midlands. Her voice is warm, engaging, smooth, strong, and clear. Other accents she is able to encompass are Jamaican, MLE/London, West African, and General American.

Doreene has recorded radio dramas such as BBC The Likes of Us, Have Before Me a Remarkable Document and Changes as well as Top Dog productions The Music Teacher and audiobooks A Circle of Five by Hariss Joshua as well as having experience with motion capture with work spanning from Roots by Christian Leake and Kin Pictures by SystemKind Animation.

Beyond voice work, she is best known for her role as Beatrice Effiong, Eric’s mother, in Netflix’s Sex Education. Her recent television work includes Call The Midwife and Mr Loverman for the BBC, and she has recently filmed an episode of Brassic for Sky. With over 30 years of professional acting experience, Doreene has worked extensively across theatre, television, radio, and film. In 2024, she starred as Lena Younger in the highly acclaimed Headlong tour of A Raisin in the Sun, and recently she played Mrs Charles in the Almeida Theatre’s hit production, The Line of Beauty, based on the novel by Alan Hollinghurst, adapted by Jack Holden and directed by Michael Grandage.

She takes great pride in her Jamaican heritage and Coventry roots. Notably, actresses Jo Martin and Cherrelle Skeete are set to take on lead roles in Doreene’s debut full-length play, Behind God’s Back, which is set in her hometown.
